DSM Art Club: Who We Are

The DSM Art Club is a dream turned reality for two local Des Moines moms who appreciate art and value the role it plays in building strong communities.

With a passion for children and all things art, owners Leah and Michelle felt Des Moines needed more resources for artistic activities. By utilizing their backgrounds in teaching and art education, Leah and Michelle have put their vision to life by creating a space where artists of all ages can explore their creativity. The DSM Art Club promotes expression of personal perspectives and imagination through art projects of all mediums.

Both Leah and Michelle also include the opportunity to give back to the community by partnering with local businesses and expanding access to art classes and camps through youth art scholarships.

Michelle

A native of Des Moines, Michelle has explored art throughout the city all of her life. Extracurricular art classes as a child eventually led to a degree from Grand View University in Art Education. Being a mother of three, creative expression is a staple in her home and strongly encouraged with her children. When we create art, we elevate our mood, we improve our ability to problem solve, we open our minds to new ideas.

Leah

Leah grew up in Des Moines where she is still a proud resident. Leah was inspired by her mother, throughout life, to be creative through art. Leah sought a degree in Elementary Education from The University of Northern Iowa and later a Masters of Culturally Responsive Leadership and Instruction from Drake University. When Leah is not teaching, you can find her at the ball park or hockey rink with her two daughters. The DSM Art Club incorporates all that Leah loves; Children, Art and Teaching!
